Introduction: My name is Jimmy May. My Dad is Brian May from the group Queen. Some people I meet have lots of questions about what it was like growing up on the road with a Rock and Roll Band. I don't usually like to answer such questions, but I have decided to answer them here. So who is my dad anyway? This one is easy! My dad is Brian May, the guitarist from Queen. You may know him as he played electric guitar on the roof of Buckingham palace for the Queens Birthday. What's he like? My dad is often referred to in the industry as "the nice guy of rock and roll". I really couldn't think of a better compliment. He is a gentleman, and a very intelligent, sensitive and thoughtful man. But more than anything he is my dad! What was it like growing up a son of a rock star? Was it weird? Well this is a hard one to answer, as I really don't have any experience of any different kind of childhood.... But yes! Like so many things it had its pros and cons. It was amazing at times, and pretty dull at others. It certainly involved a lot of traveling. Can you get me autographs, the band's personal contact details, etc.? Sorry, but no. I get so many requests. Please contact the Official Queen Fan Club for requests of this nature. Did you know Freddie Mercury and what was he like? Yes, I did. My experience of Freddie was of a great and energetic entertainer. But he was more of a man than many may know. Freddie would party like the best of them, but he would always come down hard on anyone who swore or was inappropriate in front of children. I respected him for his moral code. I remember him as a great man. Do you play the guitar or an instrument? I mess around with a few chords on the guitar for fun now and then. My dad was so keen not to push me into his career, and guitar playing, and I never really had the motivation. In recent years I have learned a few chords and me and dad jam together a little, just for fun.
